Barra Slow Festival will be held from May 1 to 3
With a rich and time-honored tea culture across Asia

The inaugural Barra Slow Festival, held last November, garnered an overwhelming response and successfully aroused a slow-living atmosphere in Macau. In light of this, the festival will be held multiple times this year with different themes, with the May edition— “A Sip of Tea, A Glimpse of Heritage,” taking the lead. With a rich and time-honored tea culture across Asia, the festival brings together nearly 40 tea brands from various regions, offering tea drinks, tea snacks, tea-infused coffee, tea cocktails, and tea-related products. From robust traditional flavours to creative tea-infused beverages, the market showcases the diverse role of tea in daily life, inviting both seasoned connoisseurs and newcomers to find joy in the interplay of old and new tea culture.

Tea Pavilion
Tea Performance Stage

To further promote tea and intangible cultural heritage, the festival has commissioned Macau-based architects João Ó and Rita Machado to create two bamboo-structured spaces: the “Tea Pavilion” and the “Tea Performance Stage.” The Tea Pavilion serves as a tranquil space for visitors to sit and savor tea, while the Tea Performance Stage hosts a dynamic array of performances and experiential activities. Within the Tea Pavilion, the “Water Mirror: Tea Tasting Ceremony” offers a unique experience. Guests are served by three different tea masters, who share insights into their carefully selected teas during a one-hour tasting session. Only three sessions are available per day. Meanwhile, the “Infuse & Indulge: Culinary Tea Ceremony,” a ten-course tea-inspired culinary experience led by local Le Cordon Bleu-trained chef Maggie Chiang, is offered once daily, combining tea culture with refined dining in an immersive setting. Both ticketed experiences are available in limited numbers, early booking is recommended.

Guizhou’s “Village T

The Intangible Cultural Heritage Market, making its Macau debut in collaboration with the internationally renowned Guizhou’s “Village T” cultural brand, presents a vibrant showcase of ethnic minority crafts, alongside over 50 local intangible cultural heritage brands and hands-on activities. Guizhou’s “Village T” was founded by GU-A-XIN (Yang Chunlin), a Miao youth from Kaili, with the mission of promoting the rich Miao and Dong cultural heritage of Qiandongnan Prefecture, Guizhou, bringing it to global attention through the runway. Since its launch in July 2024, it has staged over 500 shows, appeared on the China Central Television (CCTV) Spring Festival Gala, London Fashion Week, and New York Fashion Week, and received the National Intangible Cultural Heritage Innovation Award.

This year’s festival also features a limited-edition ceramic teacup, crafted in collaboration with artisans from Jingdezhen and designed to fit comfortably in the hand. Priced at MOP 58, the cup can be used on-site by visitors. The above ticketed items will go on sale starting at 11:00 AM on April 3 via Macau Ticketing Network, Damai, and Ctrip.
