The event was inaugurated by Mr. Chan Ka Leong, Chairman of the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macau – District Development Center. During his speech, Mr. Chan highlighted the importance of infusing creativity and vitality into historic districts while preserving their cultural authenticity. He described “Felicidade Tipsy Weekend” as an innovative initiative that combines neighborhood revitalization, cultural tourism, unique consumer experiences, and modern trends aimed at fostering engagement and participation among both residents and tourists.
Local Ingredients Transform into Signature Cocktails A highlight of the event was the “event-exclusive” themed cocktails. Over 25 professional bartenders from Macao and nearby regions transformed more than 100 locally inspired flavors into unique cocktail creations. Unlike traditional recipes relying on international ingredients, these bartenders drew inspiration from Rua de Felicidade’s local businesses. Ingredients such as cooling herbal tea, savory shrimp roe, spicy chili oil, sweet and crunchy peanut candy, tangy preserved plums, and even rich oyster sauce and duck liver were skillfully interpreted into brightly colored cocktails through modern mixology techniques. Many visitors were pleasantly surprised by this innovation, with one traveler from Hong Kong praising the concept of using local ingredients, saying, “Sipping these drinks while enjoying music and exploring the historic street feels completely different from the usual Macao experience.”

Music, Market, and More In addition to cocktails, the event featured a creative market, a main stage, and DJ performances. Artists including Hong Kong’s Tyson Yoshi, Jessica Chan, local powerhouse singer Vivian Chan, and multiple DJs from Hong Kong and Macao took turns entertaining the crowd. As night fell, the century-old buildings were illuminated by event lighting, attracting large crowds of visitors. With signature drinks in hand, attendees roamed the vibrant alleys, enjoyed live performances, and shopped at the surrounding stores, creating a lively and festive weekend atmosphere along Rua de Felicidade.
Interactive Spending Rewards Boost Community Engagement The event partnered with the Bank of China Macao and Tai Fung Bank to launch exclusive spending rewards. Visitors who reached specified spending thresholds at participating merchants in the Rua de Felicidade area could exchange their receipts for signature cocktail vouchers, wristbands for front-row spectator zones, and limited-edition souvenirs. Tourists displaying ferry or cross-border bus tickets were also eligible to receive complimentary cocktail vouchers, encouraging deeper dives into local communities. Access to the front-row spectator zones required wristbands that could only be obtained through consumption at surrounding businesses. This interactive mechanism encouraged many visitors to dine or shop at local merchants before enjoying performances. The event successfully increased foot traffic and spending, enhancing business engagement while providing a more immersive and rewarding visitor experience.
Encouraging Prolonged Stays and Nighttime Activities One notable outcome of the event was the extended stay time of participants, many of whom lingered in the area for several hours. Tourists who initially planned brief visits chose to stay longer into the evening, taking advantage of opportunities to dine, shop, and participate in activities around Rua de Felicidade. Attendees expressed high satisfaction with their experience, emphasizing how the combination of cocktails, music, and the street’s historic ambiance enhanced the allure of nighttime exploration. Many also provided feedback recommending an extension of event hours or the inclusion of additional night sessions, highlighting a growing demand for Macao’s distinctive nighttime activities. The event’s success in attracting visitors and encouraging prolonged engagement aligns seamlessly with Macau’s broader tourism goals of “Tourism+”, which aim to encourage longer visitor stays and foster the growth of the night economy.

By blending mixology culture, live music performances, and the unique offerings of local businesses, “Felicidade Tipsy Weekend” successfully drew a diverse audience across all age groups. The event significantly boosted foot traffic and spending among nearby merchants while rejuvenating one of Macao’s most iconic historic districts. Looking ahead, the Development Center plans to organize more activities tailored to the distinctive characteristics of different districts, continuing its efforts to revitalize Macao’s historic areas and enhance both resident and visitor experiences.
