To enhance commercial vitality in the Barra district, the “Barra Slow Festival”, organized by the District Development Center of the General Union of Neighborhood Associations of Macao, held its grand opening ceremony today (4 September) at 5:00 p.m. at Navy Yard No. 1. Through its signature festival programme, the event continues to draw visitors into the district.
Themed “Bake with Ease, Savour the Summer”, this edition brings together more than 100 exhibitors at the Bakery Market and Lifestyle Aesthetics Market, with nearly half being local merchants. Musicians from the mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan are also presenting sunset concerts spanning pop, mellow vocal music and immersive post-rock. The festival has partnered with Bank of China Macau Branch to launch the “Slow Living Spending Rewards”, creating a multifaceted slow-living experience against the waterfront backdrop of the historic dockyard, filled with the aroma of freshly baked bread, handmade creativity, live music and diverse consumer engagement.

World-Class Champion Bakers Arrive in Macao
The festival’s Bakery Market features a delegation of world-class award-winning bakers from Mondial du Pain Ambassadors (China). Originating in France, the organization is one of the most influential platforms in the global baking industry. Bakers visiting Macao include Wang Yujian, champion of the China selection for the 10th Mondial du Pain; Luo Mingzhong, champion of the 9th global final; Xu Weinan, gold medallist of the 2nd National Baking Competition; Damien, a finalist in a French viennoiserie competition; and Luo Si, named among China’s Top Ten Pastry Chefs. Residents and visitors can experience world-class baking craftsmanship up close.
A number of popular bakery brands are also joining the festival, including Jiangren Zhiwei, a crowd favourite at this year’s Shanghai Bread Festival; Roll Roll Bakery, winner of the 2026 French Bread Festival annual award; and One Roll Bakery, known for its signature rice bread. Selected brands are also launching festival-exclusive breads, offering visitors baking experiences in a range of regional styles.
The Lifestyle Aesthetics Market extends slow living into everyday life, bringing together distinctive exhibitors from across Asia. Products range from ceramic tableware and soothing fragrances to woven greenery, fabric goods, refined accessories and creative lifestyle objects, with brands presenting signature handmade pieces and new collections.

Ten Music Acts Take Turns at the Sunset Concerts
This year’s music programme has been expanded into a large-scale outdoor sunset concert series staged inside a hand-built intangible cultural heritage bamboo pavilion. Ten acts from the mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan will perform, including acclaimed singer-songwriters Yoyo Sham and Gigi Cheung, Gwenji ft. Songchi, Theseus, Guoch Choi and Winifai. For the closing performance, Offside Festival presents a Macao special featuring Zhaoze, HUPO, Summer Fades Away and WhyOceans, bringing instrumental music and post-rock to the festival finale.

Multiple Spending Rewards Extend Benefits to Nearby Merchants
Cross-Departmental Collaboration Enhances Impact
The “Slow Living Spending Rewards” include e-voucher rewards, instant spending discounts and exclusive privileges for invited customers. In partnership with Bank of China Macau Branch, the programme offers residents and visitors a richer and more diverse spending experience. Its benefits also extend into surrounding neighborhoods, with more than 100 merchants taking part, helping to stimulate commercial vitality across the district. During the festival, the Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) of the Macao SAR is holding a presentation session on the “Scheme for Supporting the Development of Macao First-Store Economy”, introducing Macao’s business environment and related support policies to investors and brands interested in establishing a presence in the city. In addition, local bakery exhibitor BAMU Bakery is supporting the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO)’s dual-engine promotional strategy integrating gastronomy and culture by developing a limited-edition baked product featuring Macao Tourism Mascot “Mak Mak”, which makes its debut at the festival.
